Events in Johannesburg this week

Music rooms, markets, food evenings, theatre and nights out across a very large city. The cards below are an example week, not a live listing.

Example week · this weekWeekend sample · this weekend

Johannesburg’s nights are scattered. A play in Newtown, a dinner in Parkhurst and a late set in Melville can share a Saturday and still be an hour apart once traffic is honest. This page sorts the city by the kind of evening you want, not by a pretend master calendar.

There is no live events feed here. The category notes describe real, recurring parts of the city’s cultural life: theatre at the Market Theatre and Joburg Theatre, Saturday markets such as Neighbourgoods in Braamfontein and the farmers’ market at Fourways, and annual festivals such as Joy of Jazz, whose dates you should check rather than assume. The cards are a sample of how a week is written down. They are not real events. FeelingFlexi is not selling tickets for them, and they are not Event structured data.

Music

Johannesburg’s live music sits in small rooms and in large annual festivals rather than on one strip. Newtown, Braamfontein and Melville are the usual neighbourhoods for a weeknight set. Joy of Jazz is the best-known festival; the dates change each year, so check before you go.

Food & Drink

The reliable food events are markets, not one-off pop-ups invented for a list. Neighbourgoods Market in Braamfontein is a long-running Saturday institution, and the Fourways Farmers Market is another. Both can shift hours or stall lists. Check before you go. Supper clubs exist, but a specific dinner on a specific night is not something this page can promise.

Nightlife

Evenings often start with dinner on 4th Avenue in Parkhurst or 7th Street in Melville and move on from there. Rosebank and Sandton have later rooms attached to hotels and malls. The inner city has nights that are excellent and nights that need local advice. Go with someone who knows the venue, and sort out the ride home before you go out.

Festivals

The city’s best-known festivals are annual, not weekly. Joy of Jazz, the Rand Show and a run of food and arts festivals return in their seasons. This page will not pretend any of them is on during the example week. If you are visiting for a festival, check the organiser’s dates before you book flights.

Tours & Outdoors

Guided days that people actually take include Soweto visits built around Vilakazi Street, walks at Melville Koppies, and trips west to the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden or the Cradle of Humankind. Operators, prices and whether a hike is open after rain all change. Check before you go. Do not treat the cards below as a booking.

Planning a Johannesburg weekend

Pick a side of the city and stay there. Inner-city culture (Constitution Hill, Newtown, Braamfontein) is one Saturday. The northern suburbs (Rosebank, Parkhurst, the Emmarentia dam and the botanical garden) are another. Soweto is better as a morning of its own than as a stop between malls.

Summer afternoons can disappear into a thunderstorm with very little warning. If the plan is outdoors, start early and have an indoor second half: Wits Art Museum, the Origins Centre, Sci-Bono, or a long lunch. In winter, take a layer for the evening even if the afternoon felt warm.

Small theatres and supper clubs sell out, and market stalls run out of the thing you wanted. FeelingFlexi does not sell tickets. When the app links to a partner, payment and changes are handled there. Nothing on this page is a booking.

Questions

What’s on in Johannesburg this weekend?

This page does not publish a live weekend list. It describes the kinds of events the city actually has, and it shows an example week so you can see the shape of a listing. Every card is marked as an example and is not a real event. For a live view, open the FeelingFlexi app and swipe. For plans without a ticket, use the things-to-do guide.

Are the markets in Johannesburg real?

Yes. Neighbourgoods Market in Braamfontein and the Fourways Farmers Market are real, long-running markets. Their hours and stall lists change, so check before you go. The named cards on this page are still examples, not this week’s programme.

Where do ticket links go?

FeelingFlexi does not sell tickets. The sample cards on this page do not link out. When the app shows an event from a ticket partner, that partner handles payment, refunds and changes.

How often is this page updated?

This page is a written guide to the kinds of events Johannesburg has, not a feed that refreshes itself. The example week is labelled as an example. For what partners are listing today, this week or this month, open the app.
