Events to go to in Johannesburg this week

this week as a labelled example of how a Johannesburg week is shaped, not a list of real gigs.

Johannesburg does not have one street where the week’s tickets all live. A play in Newtown, a Saturday market in Braamfontein and a dinner in Parkhurst can be the same weekend and still punish you if you treat them as one neighbourhood. This page describes the kinds of events the city actually repeats, then shows an example week so the format is obvious.

The example cards are not real events. They have no ticket links. FeelingFlexi is not selling them. Joy of Jazz, the Rand Show, Neighbourgoods Market and the Fourways Farmers Market are real parts of the city’s life, and their dates and hours are exactly the sort of thing that changes. Check before you go. For places that do not need a ticket at all, read things to do in Johannesburg this weekend.

Example listings. The events on this page are samples that show the format. They are not real events; live listings come from ticket partners.

The weekend, as a sample: this weekend

Friday and Saturday carry the dinner streets, the markets and whatever the theatres have actually programmed. Sunday is better as a Soweto morning or a garden than as a second late night.

What a Johannesburg week is usually made of

Music

Small rooms in Newtown, Braamfontein and Melville carry a lot of the week-to-week music. Joy of Jazz is the festival people mean when they talk about the city’s jazz calendar, and it is annual. Its dates are published by the organisers, not by this page. Outdoor sets happen when someone has booked a lawn and the weather agrees. A sample card with a made-up room name is only here so you can see the format.

Food and drink

The food events that survive from year to year are markets. Neighbourgoods in Braamfontein on Saturdays and the farmers’ market at Fourways are the two to know. Supper clubs and tastings appear and disappear with the chef. If a dinner matters, book a real restaurant on 4th Avenue or 7th Street rather than a sample card.

Nightlife

Parkhurst and Melville are dinner-led nights that can become later if you want them to. Rosebank and Sandton have rooms attached to the mall-and-hotel side of the city. The inner city has nights that are worth it with local company and nights that are not. Ask, and pre-arrange the ride.

Festivals

Joy of Jazz and the Rand Show are real annual events. So are a number of food and arts festivals whose names rotate. None of them should be assumed to fall inside an arbitrary example week. If a festival is why you booked the flight, the festival’s own site is the listing.

Tours and outdoors

Soweto visits built around Vilakazi Street, walks on Melville Koppies, and days at Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden or the Cradle of Humankind are the standard guided shapes. Access, fees and whether a path is open after rain all change. Check before you go. The sample meeting points below are not a company you can pay.

Plan the week you actually have

Stay in one corridor

Inner city and Braamfontein are one night. Parkhurst and Melville are another. Rosebank can join the north. Crossing all three after 7pm is the plan that fails.

Check the market, then leave

Neighbourgoods is a Saturday market in Braamfontein, not a permanent food hall you can assume at 3pm on a Wednesday. Fourways Farmers Market has its own rhythm. Look it up the morning you go.

Book the ride before the encore

Late sets in Melville, Rosebank and the inner city end after the easy options thin out. Decide how you are getting home while you are still deciding whether to stay.

FeelingFlexi does not sell tickets. None of the sample cards below is a real event, and none of them links to a checkout. When the app shows a partner listing, that partner sets the price and handles the sale.

Annual festivals are real and they are not this list. If you are here for Joy of Jazz or the Rand Show, use the organiser’s dates for the year you mean. If you would rather swipe than read categories, open the FeelingFlexi app, set Johannesburg, and choose a distance.

Questions

Are these Johannesburg events real?

No. Every card is an example, marked Example only, and there is no ticket link. The category text describes real kinds of nights, real theatres and real markets. It does not claim a specific gig is on.

Which markets can I actually look up?

Neighbourgoods Market in Braamfontein and the Fourways Farmers Market are real. Their days and hours change. Check before you go. The sample cards are not their programmes.

Where should I look for a real ticket?

FeelingFlexi does not sell tickets on this page. The app shows partner listings for the dates you pick, and the partner handles payment. You can also go straight to a theatre such as the Market Theatre or Joburg Theatre and read their own schedule.

What if I am only in town for two nights?

Pick one area. Newtown and Braamfontein if you want theatre and the inner city. Parkhurst or Melville if you want dinner and a smaller room. Do not add Soweto after midnight.
